About Your Teacher
Welcome to St.Anne Next Generation Preschool! My name is Nancy Meehan and I have been blessed to be part of the St.Anne Parish School faculty for 14 years. I teach the half day 4/5’s classes and serve as the Early Childhood Director. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and a Masters of Science in Elementary Education. I anticipate each school year with the same excitement as I did my first year in the classroom. Each little Cardinal brings their own joy to the classroom community.
News From Our Classroom
December – Hurray for the holidays! This month is filled with fun, fantasy and friendship! We are busy as Santa’s elves with projects for family gifts, decorations and reinforcement of the true gift of Christmas. We teach the children that there are two parts to Christmas-the Jesus part and the Santa part. We learn songs and finger plays to reinforce the understanding and the fun. We work on a literature study , comparing and contrasting many editions of Gingerbread Man tale. Families are invited to join us for a holiday sing-along. There is so much magic in the hearts and eyes of our little Cardinals. Merry Christmas to all!
November- This month we begin our Jolly Phonics curriculum. This wonderful program has been a mainstay in our preschool classrooms for almost 10 years now and we continue to love the way the program appeals to every learner in ways that speak to them as individuals. Parent support at home is vital to the students’ success .. Jolly Phonics is a synthetic phonics program and so it builds, each day, on what has gone before. We are grateful when you can find the time at home to continue the learning that goes on here at school. We also work on a theme of gratitude this month. We learn songs and fingerplays around this theme. We take food to the parish food pantry and have a prayer service in the chapel where the children can tell us all what they are thankful for. I know that I am thankful for the gift of each of these precious children in our classroom.
October- This month we continue to work to establish classroom routines. These routines are vitally important to the students comfort level in the classroom and help to build their sense of mastery and competence. Routines help them to feel safe and make the classroom feel predictable for them. The comfort level this establishes for the children encourages them to take risks with their learning as the challenges of the curriculum grow . Of course, we have plenty of Halloween fun with games, songs and great literature too!
August/September– Welcome to Mrs. Meehan’s 4/5 PreK classroom! Back to School time is my favorite time of year. I am always so excited to meet my new students and to anticipate the amazing growth they will experience. The first few weeks of school are spent getting to know each other. We use the math principles of same/different to sort a variety of objects using different rules. We then discuss how people are the same in many ways and different in others. We connect this concept to the truth of God’s love for all of us despite our differences, and because of them. We learn together that God took the time to make each of us, wonderful and perfect in his eyes. As we get to know each other in this way, new friendships are formed and our class community grows.
