St. Anne First Grade uses a combination of whole class and small group instruction which is both nurturing and challenging. This approach provides the students with exposure to critical thinking skills and a literacy rich curriculum.
The first grade language arts curriculum meets the Common Core Language Arts Standards and integrates writing, literature, phonics, grammar and spelling. We offer individual support in leveled guiding reading and writing workshops. We also incorporate The Daily Five approach to enhance independent literacy skills.
Our hands on mathematics program is aligned to the Common Core Standards in Math. It utilizes written materials, manipulatives, small group instruction and interactive smart board technology.
Our science and social studies curriculum is integrated into our Language Arts program and allows the children to make meaningful connections with the Scientific Method and problem based inquiry.
Our first grade religion program teaches the basics of Catholic doctrine. We regularly attend Mass with our seventh grade mentors. Our children learn the servant leader philosophy and incorporate faith and values into our faith filled nurturing environment. We are proud to offer a diversity rich environment.
Our Foreign Language program exposes our children to Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
First grade at St. Anne offers the children the opportunity to become independent thinkers while they grow academically, spiritually and emotionally.
